The history of the Maxgear Women's Race Team

The Maxgear women’s cycling team was born in 2009. Riders were selected riders from a number of backgrounds including road racing (Team Luciano), triathlon and running. Their first race was the Tour of Chongming Island in Shanghai, China. A new kit was created by Maxgear and Champion Systems and the tour was a fantastic experience for all!  Team Cyclosport have a blog on the tour see http://www.facebook.com/note.php?note_id=119181497575
Maxgear also supported the Vision 1 team in 2009 headed up by World Champion Nicole Cooke.

After an exciting start, the 2009 season saw the Womens team racing brought to a more local level, with Maxgear being based in Cheshire, domestic riders were supported including Anna Fischer who became National Hill Climb Champion in the year and elite rider Marianne Britten and they competed in the British National Women’s Team Series around the UK. During 2009 the Maxgear ladies were narrowly pipped into 2nd place overall by Mischief.com.

2010 was another strong year for Maxgear including a win at Darley Moor for Marianne, but once again they were pushed into 2nd place this time by Motorpoint. It was also a year of change for Maxgear, a number of riders retired and others moved onto other teams including one on the continent. Our youngest rider Olivia Greenhalgh (under 8’s) joined the team winning two races at Salt Eyre. At the end of 2010 an eye-catching new kit was designed by Maxgear and supplied by Champion Systems and an entirely new team was formed with triathletes and road racers all based in the North West for the 2011 season.
